As I approach my 40th birthday, I wanted to do something that would be memorable. Originally I was planning to take the time off and spend it at Pangkor Laut resort, to try and recharge my batteries. I felt it would be good to have a few days peace and quiet at somewhere I knew. However, I was talked out of it and before long I started to think about what I could do instead.

Tiredness
I came home from work today after lunch, with the intention of getting some work done in a peaceful environment. However, when i got back home I suddenly became very tired and lethargic.
Saturday morning chills
I need to relax more on my Saturday mornings. I have a commitment at 8am each Saturday morning, which gets me out of the house and moving – once I’m out and done what I needed to do, I just need to head to a coffee shop and chill out a bit.
Road to wellness
I’m getting fatter, that much is certain. I’m now weighing in at around 115kg, give or take a few grams. I’ve posted a few times how I need to try and shift the weight, but in reality not much has actually been done about it.
Saturday mornings
Since getting back last Saturday, the weather in the UK has been either rain or sunshine, demonstrating the typical British summer weather. Ironically enough, I’ve probably seen more rain here in the last week than I did in the previous week in Kuala Lumpur, a place famed for it’s tropical downpours. It go so bad one day that the roads had rivers running down them, from the sheer amount of rain that was coming down.
The tyranny of the written word
I’ve been using the Internet now for around 20 years, and it’s changed beyond belief. Back in the 90’s, the easiest way to get online in the UK was to use something like Compuserv, Demon or, in my case, AOL UK. AOL was a unique proposition – it was a gateway to the Internet, founded upon AOL’s own software and content. In short, you had to use AOL’s god awful browser, but you also had access to a large amount of custom content and also the infamous AOL chatrooms.
Russian Proverbs
Whenever I travel, I always ensure that I have plenty of things to watch on my iPad; after all, flying for 13 hours at a time can be quite boring, and a couple of things that I really want to watch helps pass that time.
Need to exercise
I’m heavier now than I ever have been. I am eating reasonable meals and am trying to cut back on sugary foods, but on it goes. It’s probably due to a couple of factors: beer and lack of exercise.
I can cut my beer intake down, and I can start exercising again. Cycling seems to be the best thing for me to do, as it’s the most accessible. I just need to make time for it. It’s Hari Raya weekend now, which means I’ve got four days off from work. I’ll take a look at my bike later tonight and do any work that needs to be done (e.g. pumping tyres). Then, tomorrow morning, I’m going to get out and try to cycle. It’s been a while, so I’ll need to try and warm up before I start, otherwise I’ll end up in agony. My brother is kicking my arse as far as cycling is concerned – he can do 79km easily, while I struggle to do just 5km.
Targets to aim for – I want to do 20km in one session, and I want to do 100km in one week, preferably by the end of August. Time to commit myself I think.
Lessons on Patience
I wrote yesterday that I was going to go back to church today, and so I did my best to get myself up and ready so I could be at the church for their 9:30am service. Sadly, things didn’t go my way as there was a major traffic jam on the way which meant I arrived over half an hour late.
Spiritual Reawakenings
It’s been a long time since I last went to church. The events of the last year have made me fall away from something I felt close to, and as a result I’ve not set foot inside of a church for almost a year now.
